I turned caravan into tiny home with FREE log burner…but I could get kicked out any minute and lose £9k life savings

A COUPLE managed to transform a run-down caravan into a tiny home complete with a free log burner – but they could get kicked out at any time and lose their life savings.

A freelance filmmaker, who has worked on some BBC wildlife shows such as Springwatch, and his partner put in the hard graft to transform a static caravan into a cosy little home.

The filmmaker, who is also a social media star on YouTube and TikTok where he is known as “Off Grid Path”, detailed the transformation in a series of short clips and showed off their efforts.

The filmmaker did admit he wasn’t fully off grid yet but hoped to be in the future.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, he said: “Off grid path is very much a Channel about becoming off grid so I’m not technically off grid.”

However, he added: “My heating is solely from a log burner or a wood stove and that heats the cabin.

“I don’t have any other form of heating, the water is from a borehole, electricity is very much on the grid so I’m on the grid connected to electricity and that’s pretty much it.

“I’m living not quite off-grid but hoping to be at some point because I think it’s quite interesting I think a lot of people think it would be cheaper and I’m finding that it is however it really depends on how you manage it and what you choose to spend your time doing.”

In a TikTok video, which has gained more than 3,100 likes, he gave a tour of his home.

Once through the front door, you’re straight into the kitchen and lounge which was designed to be as open plan as possible.

He said that scaffold boards were used for the kitchen surfaces which they deliberately kept as simple as possible.

The kitchen work surfaces need to be as big as possible so they could double up as a “working from home” desk as well as somewhere for food preparation.

Moving onto the lounge, he said: “We just wanted a nice cosy lounge.

“We’ve got our log burner which is completely refurbished, that was free.”

That is their only source of heat in the cabin and they use a fan to help blow the heat into the bedroom.

He also revealed that they got their sofa free from Facebook Marketplace.

Moving on to the bathroom and toilet, there is a composting toilet along with a sink and a basic shower.

Then after going along the hallway and past his collection of axes, you come to the bedroom.

Originally, there were two bedrooms but this was knocked into one and is complete with a double bed along with plenty of storage space both actually under the bed and in cupboards built into the roof.

However, their future is not entirely secure as in the comments to one of their clips, he was asked what would happen if the farmer sold the land their home was on.

He replied: “It’s a risk but the only way we could do it.”

That could mean their “dream home” suddenly comes a nightmare and they could then lose the money they put into creating somewhere to live.
