‘Distraught’ jockey loses it after 1-100 runner suffers ‘brutal’ end to Plumpton race

A ‘DISTRAUGHT’ jockey lost it after his 1-100 horse suffered a ‘brutal’ end to this incredible Plumpton race.

Punters were full of sympathy for poor Chad Bament after his dream of a first career winner ended in agony.

Incredible drama at the last!

The 7lb claimer put in a simply superb round of jumping on the Warren Greatrex-trained Windance in the 3.20 on Monday.

Backed into 17-2 from bigger prices, the nine-year-old gelding was fancied to defy a 354-day break for connections.

And it looked for all the world like he would make it a belated hat-trick of victories as he cruised to the last in the 3m1½ handicap chase.

But if any sport proves it ain’t over till it’s over, then it’s racing.

Bament cajoled Windance into the last – when his price hit the basement 1.01 (1-100) in-running on the Betfair Exchange.

But he clattered into the fence and sent his rider somersaulting forwards.

What goes up must come down and Bament smashed into the turf with the race having been at his mercy.

Sky Sports Racing cameras captured a livid Bament banging the grass in frustration.

Fortunately both horse and jockey were up OK after the incident with no injuries.

The blunder opened the door to Everything’sontick and Gerico Ville.

Two two fought out a dramatic finish with Izzie Marshall just coming out on top against Gina Andrews, with 100-30 fav Everything’sontick winning by a neck.

But the talking point of the race was Bament’s unseat from Windance.

One viewer said: “Gutted for the jockey, nice horse… glad no injuries.”

Another wrote: “Poor jockey. He was distraught.”

One comment read: “You have to have sympathy for the jockey.”

While another likened it to an infamous Cheltenham Festival moment when writing: “Ruby did the same on Annie Power.”

There have been some dramatic final-flight incidents in recent weeks, with one at Chepstow leaving a trainer ‘absolutely gutted’.

Total mayhem’ broke out at the Welsh track in this race which saw a 999-1 in-running winner.
