Fans say Man Utd’s Class of 92 are ‘moving like the Glazers’ as major Salford City plans revealed

SALFORD CITY’S Class of 92 owners are seeking external investment as they aim to “grow the club”.

The ownership group is comprised of former Manchester United stars David Beckham, Gary Neville, Phil Neville, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs.

Since the Class of 92 takeover in 2014 alongside Singaporean billionaire Peter Lim, Salford have climbed from the eighth tier to League Two.

The Ammies were promoted to the fourth tier in 2019, but have since only finished in the top seven once – despite significant investment for the level.

They lost in last season’s play-off semi-finals, but currently find themselves languishing in 19th following an awful first half of the campaign.

Butt, 49, took over as chief executive following Gary Neville’s resignation in 2022.

Confirming his side’s plans, Butt said: “We are backing Salford City with as much commitment and confidence as ever.

“We have achieved very special things here but there are major opportunities in front of us and we want to make sure we have the right mix of investment and strategic partners to take advantage of those opportunities.

“We had an original 10-year plan and with strong foundations now in place, it was always the intention to explore options for the next phase.

“That includes potentially bringing in new partners to help us grow the club and best serve the fans and community.”

According The Athletic, Salford have already received “initial expressions of interest” from would-be investors.

Upon seeing the Ammies’ desire for fresh investment, Man Utd fans likened the move to the Glazers bringing Sir Jim Ratcliffe onboard.

One wrote on social media: ““strategic partners” Right out of the glazer hand book.”

While a second joked: “Moving like the glazers.”

A third quipped: “Looking for their own Sir Jim.”

And another added: “I’m sure they can ask the Glazers.”
