The 33-year-old NHS worker had been left “in pieces” by the death of her twin sons, her stepdad’s double leg amputation and a car robbery all happening in quick succession.

But there’s now a light at the end of the tunnel as she won more than £405,000 and has vowed to use the money to become a paediatric nurse to help poorly children.

Rachel and husband John, 37, broke down in tears when they collected the prize.

Rachel said:This just doesn’t happen to us. We’re used to picking up the phone to bad news.”

And speaking of her lost babies, she added, “I want to keep their memories alive by helping poorly children.”

She continued: “I wanted to give back and do something with my career after everything I’ve been through.

“When I got the job with the NHS, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I want to be a paediatric nurse and I want to look after poorly children.

“I can now do a Master’s nursing degree and make it happen.”

Rachel ended up being the only person in her Dukinfield, Manchester postcode to win big.

But that’s because none of her neighbours buy tickets for the weekly lottery.

Rachael won the maximum ticket prize – her share of a £1million jackpot.

The remaining money totalling over £594,000 was shared between players in the postcode sector.

More than 1,280 players landed cash sums ranging from £419 to £1,257.

Rachel also plans to buy a Life for a Life tree for her beloved twins.

She added: “We want to get a tree for life planted at Dove Stone Reservoir (a memorial forest near Oldham).

“We’ve always wanted to do it but they’re expensive.”
