Rooney Mara reveals she’s pregnant and expecting her second child with fiancé Joaquin Phoenix

Rooney Mara is pregnant and expecting her second child with fiancé Joaquin Phoenix – and revealed the news in the sweetest way.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo star, 38, debuted her baby bump as she stepped out at the premiere of her new film La Cocina in Berlin, Germany, on Friday.

Mara looked radiant as she hit the red carpet, cradling her baby bump in a long black dress.

Her dress was strapless and featured a long black train and she tied her dark locks back and off her face.

Multiple US outlets are also reporting the news that she’s pregnant with her second child.

The couple welcomed their first child, son River, in August 2020.

River is named after Phoenix’s brother, who died in 1993.

Mara and Phoenix, 49, first met on the set of the 2013 film Her, and got engaged in 2019.

According to Us Weekly, the couple have no plans to make their relationship official with marriage.

“They’re never going to get married because they think marriage is too mainstream,” said a source.

Phoenix previously said about Mara that she was the only girl he had ever looked up on the internet after they first met.

“She’s the only girl I ever looked up on the internet,” 44-year-old Phoenix revealed in the new issue of Vanity Fair.

“We were just friends, email friends. I’d never done that. Never looked up a girl online.”

The pair met in 2013 when they co-starred in the sci-fi drama Her, which is about a lonely writer who thinks he’s in a relationship with the female voice on his computer. During filming, Phoenix thought Mara despised him when really she was just shy, reported Vanity Fair.

Years later in early 2017, rumours swirled that the pair had begun dating. Confirmation came when they walked the red carpet together at the Cannes Film Festival in 2017, and by September Phoenix revealed to The New York Times’ T Magazine that they had moved in together.

Phoenix did previously give The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo actress a shoutout during his acceptance speech at the Toronto International Film Festival.

“One last thing – somewhere here, I don’t know where, is a filthy dragon, and I want to rip its wings off and fasten a blanket and sleep with it forever,” he said of his fiancée when accepting the TIFF Tribute Actor Award. “I love you. Thank you.”
