Bury clash postponed with 800 fans on Isle of Man as team’s flight unable to land… but supporters rewarded in the end

BURY’S clash with Isle of Man was postponed after their flight was unable to land… but their 800 travelling supporters did eventually end up enjoying a 2-0 win.

The North West Counties Football League fixture was due to take place on Saturday but was moved to 11am on Sunday as the Bury team’s flight could not land due to fog.

This meant the fans that had made the trip from Bury were forced to stay an extra night on the Isle of Man.

But it ended up being worth the wait as they claimed a 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Benito Lowe and Andrew Briggs.

Bury shared a video of the players and fans celebrating together after the final whistle.

And supporters on social media were quick to hail the spirit of the football club – who are now top of the ninth tier.

One said: “Got more of an affinity with these players & staff than any of the ‘pro’s’ we’ve ever had. Here for the fans, not the money!! ”

Another added: “Brilliant display by the lads and the fans, well worth the wait.

“Great to see so many shakers fans there and also spare a thought for those who came yesterday and had to go back before today’s great performance well done to all of you.”

And a third replied: “Warms the cockles of my heart on a winter Sunday. Magnificent .”

Bury ceased to exist back in 2019 as a financial crisis led to the club going out of business.

But a fan-owned group revived Bury FC last year.

And they are now seeking promotion to the eighth tier – five years after being expelled from the Football League.
