Will show his true colours back over fences after finishing third in a Fakenham hurdles contest last time out. Trainer Christian Williams has given him a little break since then and he races from 9lb over the bigger obstacles. His last chase outing saw him finish a close-up second at Wincanton in October over a two-mile trip that is definitely on the short side for this stout stayer. He’s stepped up to three miles here on testing ground that is usually right up his street. Even that run over hurdles was promising as he was on the worst of the ground all the way round and boxed on. This looks a good chance to get back to winning ways from a handy weight.
IT’S MAISY (4.30 Southwell, nb)
Sue Smith’s hurdler comes here in excellent form after three wins from her past four outings. Staying is her forte and she had lots left in the tank when scoring at Market Rasen and again in testing conditions at Catterick last time out where she got a bit of help when the leader fell. A 4lb rise in the weights looks fair and she looks open to improvement.
SO THEY SAY (3.20 Musselburgh, treble)
Enjoys her visits to the Scottish seaside and battled strongly to score here last time out. Proven form at this specialists’ track is a major plus as is staying power for this near three-mile trip. She will enjoy this testing ground and looks the one to beat.
MICKS JET (1.45 Musselburgh, Lucky 15)
Lived up to his name when winning a Cheltenham bumper and has fared well on both hurdles starts so far. She was third against some useful rivals at Sedgefield last time and has more to come on her third spin over timber. Seeing out this trip will be no trouble and she gets on well with jockey Joe Williamson who takes off a valuable 5lb in this more modest contest.
