Jennifer Lopez says she always knew husband Ben Affleck was The One: ‘We just knew’

Jennifer Lopez has reflected on reconnecting with her ex Ben Affleck, who she went on to marry back in 2022.

Lopez, 54, appeared on The Kyle and Jackie O Show this week and gushed about her now-husband, 51, who she previously dated in the early 2000s.

The Jenny From the Block singer said that deep down, she always knew the actor was The One, despite the pair going on to marry other people after their initial split.

Lopez said their reunion was “never planned” and that they just had to ”grow” on their separate journeys before getting back together.

“I always say like, you know, I fell in love with the love of my life at that time and for whatever reasons that we needed to grow and do other things, and we both went off and had children with other people and other relationships,” she said.

“But you know in mind I kind of had it like, ‘Oh, that was kind of The One’ and so when we got back together, I couldn’t believe it and I don’t think he could either.”

“It’s not something we ever planned. We really had moved on with our lives but when we reconnected, it was almost instant and we just knew.”

The singer said that just before she got back together with Affleck before they married, she was happy being single, but the “universe” had other plans.

“I was on a real journey, ever since my kids were born. I’m trying to be better and figure myself out and be the best person I can be so I can be a great mum, and a great example for them,” she said.

“Then when I got divorced, it kind of kick-started another phase of me trying to figure out myself and relationships and things like that, and so, I just got into a point after one of my last relationships where I was like ‘I’m good on my own, I’m fine, I love my life,'” she explained.

“And when you get to that place, I think that’s when the universe kind of opened up to me and was like, ‘OK, now you’re ready.'”

Their re-kindled romance and subsequent marriage in 2022 had the whole world gripped and Lopez said she hopes people see ”true love does exist” and they “don’t give up hope” in their own lives.

Lopez told Hit Network’s Carrie and Tommy she does feel like she’s found her “forever” with the Oscar winner.

“I got to the point in my life where I felt like I have some answers about this, and actually, true love does exist, and some things are forever. Don’t give up hope.”

Affleck and Lopez first eloped in Las Vegas in July 2022, then celebrated once again with the second ceremony held on August 20, 2022 at their estate outside of Savannah, Georgia.

Lopez and Affleck began dating in 2002 and got engaged that year. They initially postponed their wedding in September 2003, but then split in January 2004.

She recently said on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that she felt apprehensive about marrying Affleck after their wedding plans 20 years ago “fell apart”.

“I don’t know if you guys know this, but 20 years ago we were supposed to get married and it kind of all fell apart back then,” she told Kimmel, who cheekily responded, “Yes, I heard.”

“And this time I absolutely had a little PTSD, and so I was just like, ‘Woah, is this happening? Is this really happening?'”

“We were so happy, and of course it was happening, but I just felt like the wedding was so stressful,” she told Kimmel.

“And one day Ben just says, ‘F–k it, let’s just go to Vegas and get married tonight.'”
