The opening stages of the match left little to be desired as neither side were able to create anything close to a clearcut chance.
Crystal Palace carved out the first meaningful chance of the game as Jean-Philippe Matata forced a good stop from Dorde Petrovic.
And it was the hosts that took the lead as Jefferson Lerma scored a sensational opener in the 29th minute from 30 yards.
Chelsea fired back immediately after the half-time break as Conor Gallagher turned his effort past Sam Johnstone in the 47th minute.
The visitors continued to press but struggled to find a way through the resilient Palace defence.
Axel Disasi almost found a winner in the 89th minute but his header was straight at Johnstone.
Just a minute later, Chelsea found the winner as Gallagher made it two for himself on the night with a tidy finish from the edge of the box.
Enzo Fernandez completed the scoring in the 94th minute as he fired in after a quick break.
