The ‘natural waterpark’ in Spain with waterfalls and swimming pools & it’s just 30 minutes away from Brit-loved hotspot

Located in Callosa d’en Sarria, just over nine miles from Benidorm, the Spanish tourist attraction has been likened to a natural waterpark by some visitors.

The area, which has been protected since 2002, is home to several waterfalls and natural swimming pools as well as lush plant life.

At 10m high the Cascada Principal waterfall is considered to be the site’s main attraction, with visitors able to swim up to the waterfall.

Holidaymakers who want to swim in some of the swimming pools will need to follow the wooden pathways to the Estre de Sacos.

One of the large pool areas has a diving board, so visitors can dive into the crystal-clear water.

There are other smaller swimming pools too as well as smaller waterfalls too.

Because the water comes straight from the mountain, it’s clear throughout the year, but it can also be very cold.

Holidaymakers are encouraged to wear water shoes as they swim and walk because the areas can be quite rocky.

While food and drink isn’t allowed into the site, there is a picnic area located just outside of the entrance to the waterfall.

There are five restaurants in the waterfall’s surrounding area, for those tourists who haven’t brought their own lunch.

The natural waterpark has been praised by visitors on TripAdvisor, with a 4/5 star rating from more than 1,800 reviews.

One person wrote: “A very nice location and a welcome change from the sea fronts of the area. The lovely shaded paths, cool streams and pools for paddling and bathing create a relaxed atmosphere.”

While another added: “A refreshing way to spend some hours. Great water, nice flowers and if you want, some nice spots to have a picnic.”

A third wrote: “The waterfalls are spectacular, with so many photo opportunities!”

However, one holidaymaker described the Spanish waterfall as a “tourist trap” and wasn’t impressed by the natural scenery.

Not only has the waterpark been praised by holidaymakers, but its main waterfall has also played a starring role in a famous shampoo advert.

The Timotei shampoo advert first aired in the 1980s, and featured a blonde-haired woman washing her hair underneath the waterfall.

Entry tickets to the Fuentes del Algar cost €5 (£4.27) for a full-paying adult in the high season, while tickets in the low season cost €4 (£3.42).

The Fuentes del Algar waterfall is a 32-minute drive from Benidorm – a holiday hotspot loved by Brits.

Both Ryanair and easyJet operate direct flights from UK cities to Alicante, with flights starting from £23 for a one-way ticket.

Accommodation in Benidorm is cheap too.

For example, Sun Online Travel have found an overnight stay at a three-star hotel, with a pool, for £22.50 per person per night.

For those holidaymakers who don’t want to fly to Spain to visit a beautiful waterfall, then you’ll be relieved to know there are plenty of spots in the UK.

One triple waterfall in the UK has been described as ‘spectacular’ by visitors.

The Aysgarth Falls is a three-tiered natural water feature that was visited by historical figures like William Wordsworth.

More recently, it’s had a starring role in several Hollywood blockbusters, including one hit film featuring Kevin Costner.

Meanwhile, there’s another waterfall in the UK that’s said to have “magical properties” and its water even flows red.
