I’ve had to write off THREE cars in 2 years after speeding drivers smashed into them outside home – nothing’s been done

A STUDENT has had three cars written off in just two years after they were smashed into a bizarre separate collisions – all while parked.

Amy Watson, 21, slammed “careless” motorists, who she claimed were travelling over 70mph at the time, for wrecking her motors.

Amy, who is studying at Solent University, lives in a quiet residential road in Southampton, Hampshire.

There is meant to be a 30mph speed limit in place, but she claims boy racers tear along at motorway speeds regularly.

In three separate cases, she has seen a Hyundai Getz, VW Polo and, the latest, an Audi A3 all sent off for scrap after nasty crashes.

In March 2022 , her Hyundai had its back end smashed up, before the side of the Polo was hit just a month later.

Then, last weekend her Audi somehow ended up on top of the shredded bonnet of the BMW that had hit it.

Amy said: “It’s only a matter of time before someone is killed on my road.

“I was just devastated – I thought ‘surely not a third time’.

“People come down here at speeds of more than 70mph.

“There is a bus stop on the stretch of road where my car was parked – if someone was stood there, they would be dead.

“We are desperate for a speed camera.”

All in all, the write-offs have set her back £6,000, with the Audi alone making up £5,000 of that.

Nobody has been arrested in relation to the latest case, but the road was closed off temporarily and a lampost broken.

However, it could have been much worse, as Amy claimed: “My neighbour has thanked me for parking my car there, she would have had a car through her living room if mine was not there.

“I hope the council do something before someone is killed.”

A spokesperson for Southampton City Council announced that works are planned for the surrounding roads, including “traffic calming measures“.

They said: “It would not be appropriate to comment on any particular accident or attempt to draw any wider conclusions.

“In accordance with standard practice, if the incident is classed as an injury accident it will be recorded by the police, who are able to carry out a detailed investigation of the incident and can identify any contributory factors.

“All accident data is reviewed annually and used to identify whether there are any trends which require intervention.”

Hampshire and the Isle of Wight Constabulary confirmed that no arrests had been made.

A spokesperson said: “We were called at 6.24pm on 4 February to a report of a collision.

“It was reported that a BMW collided with a parked Audi.

“No injuries were reported and enquiries remain ongoing.

“No arrests have been made.”

It comes after a blunder on a Welsh road sign saw a historic settlement labelled “egg gas town”.
