A WRONGLY-spelled road sign has labelled a historic settlement “egg gas town”.
Monmouth, near the English border, is Trefynwy in Welsh, meaning “town on the Monnow”.

But officials misspelled the name to Trefwynwy — with an extra “w” — which translates to “egg gas town”.
Local Andrew Ellis, 70, spotted the spelling error on the A449 sign.
He said: “We seem to have misspelled the Welsh name of our town.
“I’m not sure how long it’s been there for.”
Other Welsh speakers on social media say the sign can also be translated to “white egg town”.
Monmouth’s Conservative MP David Davies said: “It is pretty ludicrous to get something like this wrong.
“I am a reasonably fluent Welsh speaker, and we all make mistakes. The language has a lot of mutations and complicated grammar.
“But you would expect the Welsh Government to get the name of a town right.
A Welsh Government spokesman said: “We are making arrangements for it to be changed.”
