Tish Cyrus went through a ’complete psychological breakdown’ amid her split from Billy Ray Cyrus: ‘I couldn’t eat or sleep’

Tish Cyrus has reflected on the breakdown of her marriage to Billy Ray Cyrus.

Tish, 56, appeared on the Call Her Daddy podcast in a chat published this week, in which she said she endured the breakup and losing her mother at the same time.

Tish said the stress of it was so impactful, she went through a ”complete psychological breakdown” and even asked a psychiatrist to “put her in a mental hospital”.

“It was so crazy because, honestly, my two biggest fears in life were always being alone and my mum passing away,” Tish said.

“I was like, ‘I just don’t know if I’ll survive when my mum dies’ … and I had, like, one month of a, honestly, complete psychological breakdown. It was the worst thing – like, honestly. It was not good.”

Tish explained she wasn’t eating or sleeping properly and her weight plummeted to about 58kg.

“I could not eat. I could not sleep. I could not stop crying. I literally weighed, like, 130 [pounds].

“I don’t have my mum, and then I don’t have my husband that’s been my husband for 30 years. Like, holy crap, I’m scared.”

Tish filed for divorce from Billy Ray, 62, in April 2022 after 28 years of marriage, with People citing documents saying the pair hadn’t lived together for at least two years before the filing.

She said on the Call Her Daddy podcast that she and Billy Ray lived apart during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“[Our marriage] had not been in a good place for a long time, and I think I did stay so long out of fear – literal fear – of being alone.”

She went on to say she got used to being on her own and said the time period was “hugely transformative”.

The former couple met at a club in 1991, according to People. They married in 1993.

“It is after 30 years, five amazing children and a lifetime of memories, we have decided to go our separate ways – not with sadness, but with love in our hearts,” a statement to People read about their split.

“We have grown up together, raised a family we can be so proud of, and it is now time to create our own paths,” they added in part of the statement.

The pair had a rocky romance over the years – the singer filed for divorce in 2010 from Tish – but they dropped it.

In June 2013, Tish filed for divorce but they called it off.

“We both woke up and realised we love each other and decided we want to stay together,” they reportedly said in a statement.

Tish is now married to Dominic Purcell, with the intimate wedding taking place in August last year at a mansion in Malibu, California.

It marks Tish’s third marriage; she was married to Baxter Neal Helson from 1986-1989, and singer Billy Ray from 1993.

A source told Us Weekly in February: “[Tish] truly feels like she found her soulmate.”
