Oleksandr Usyk happy Tyson Fury fight postponed as it allows his ‘goddess of victory’ to attend in Ring of Fire clash

MRS USYK is the only one of hubby Oleksandr’s team who is happy that Tyson Fury has postponed their heavyweight super fight.

Ukraine’s WBA, IBF and WBO king had missed the January 28 birth of his fourth child — daughter Maria — to be in Valencia training for the planned February 17 showdown.

The Ukrainian, however, is happy as the delay means his wife will be able to attend the fightRICHARD PELHAM

But WBC champ Fury pulled out on Friday after suffering a horror cut above his right eye in sparring and is already back in Morecambe recovering with his family.

It is the first time that Usyk, 37, a London 2012 Olympics gold medal winner and former undisputed cruiserweight boss, has put his career ahead of parenthood.

But he is somehow not raging at the long-awaited showdown with Fury being postponed until May 18.

And wife Yekaterina is overjoyed that she can now recover from a fourth labour to be ringside — as always — when her southpaw soulmate finally takes on the Gypsy King.

Usyk, a devout husband, father and Orthodox Christian, said: “My wife was happy when she heard the news.

“Maria was born on January 28 and the fight was going to be [on] February 17.

“So it was going to be too soon for her to leave the baby and travel.

“Now she knows, with the new delays, that she will be able to come to the May 18 new date.

“My wife has never missed one of my fights — so this fight was put off, especially for her!

“My wife gives me all of my power, she is my goddess of victory.”

Usyk’s young family have suffered displacement and months apart since Russia’s invasion of their homeland.

And now this latest training camp has cost them precious time with no reward.

Speaking to SunSport, humble Usyk APOLOGISED to the little girl whose arrival he missed.

He said: “That was the first birth I have missed.

“I should have been with my wife, I should have been there with her.

“I was home for my first daughter Yelizaveta, I love you.

“I was home for Kyrylo and I was home for Mykhailo, too.

“So only Maria, I am sorry darling. Of course I wanted to be there, waiting in the corridor to meet her.

“But I will not say it was too sad, everyone is safe and happy.”

The super-dedicated leftie will now take a few days away from training to meet his new daughter properly.

And he will return to work empowered by the superwomen in his life.

Usyk added: “I want to come home to hug my daughter and thank my wife. Then I will return to training.”
