Fulham line up summer transfer move for Lyon star Rayan Cherki after failing with £35m bid in January

FULHAM will try again to land Lyon attacking midfielder Rayan Cherki in the summer.

Marco Silva’s Cottagers attempted to sign him late in the January window with a club-record £35million deal.

But Cherki, 20, who is eligible to play for either France, Italy or Algeria, could not move in time despite late efforts.

So Fulham and the Ligue 1 outfit are looking to do business next time around.

Cherki has been at Lyon since 2010 after joining as a kid.

He has gone on to score 15 goals in 123 games.

But he is yet to hit the target this season with Lyon struggling in Ligue 1 as a result.

They sit just one place above the drop zone, with Cherki coming in for criticism from fans.

He was tipped for a move to Fulham’s rivals Chelsea last summer.

However, a move failed to materialise as Todd Boehly pursued a switch for Cole Palmer instead.

Man United and Newcastle have also been linked.

Should he join Fulham, Cherki could be seen as a long-term replacement for Willian — who turns 36 this summer.

The Cottagers made just one signing in the winter transfer window.

Marco Silva pounced to land Armando Broja on loan from Chelsea.

He came off the bench for his debut in Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Burnley.

But it was fellow Chelsea youngster David Datro Fofana who stole the headlines, netting a late brace to salvage a point for Fulham’s opponents.
