A-listers in surprisingly humble cars & why Daniel Radcliffe feels ‘more comfortable in a £2k hatchback than a Ferrari’

CELEBS are known for being wealthy, successful and everyone knows their name.

But some stars aren’t always overly keen on flaunting their cash with a flashy motor.

In fact, many well-known names drive surprisingly humble cars that probably don’t leave much of a mark on their sizeable bank accounts.

Here, we reveal the down-to-earth motors some of your favourite famous faces drive.

Everyone’s favourite hybrid

A whole host of celebs, including Cameron Diaz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper, Miley Cyrus and America Ferrera have opted to drive the eco-friendly Toyota Prius over the years.

That’s the despite the fact that the popular plug-in hybrid isn’t the flashiest motor around – although it is renowned for being environmentally friendly and cheap to run.

What’s more, the Prius is pretty affordable to buy, with used examples beginning at around £3,500 in the UK – making it one of the nation’s best-selling second-hand cars.

What’s more, a brand new Prius arrives in the UK later this year, having originally been discontinued in 2022.

Classic supermini

Much-loved Oscar winner Tom Hanks has an estimated net worth of a whopping £315m according to car experts at Select Car Leasing – but the Cast Away actor is still a fan of affordable cars.

In 2017, Hanks, 67, was gifted a 1974 Fiat 126p supermini by Bielsko-Biala, a vehicle manufacturing hub in Poland.

It all came about after Hanks had posed next to the mass-produced motor before jokingly writing on social media: “I’m so excited about my new car!”

The Fiat 126p was notoriously dirt-cheap back in the day, and you can pick up for around £3,500 today by enthusiasts.

Budget pick-up

Rather than being spotted in a flashy supercar like his character Bruce Wayne in the Batman Dark Knight trilogy, actor Christian Bale prefers to get behind the wheel of a 2003 Toyota Tacoma pick-up truck.

In 2019 when Bale was doing media work for his role as racing car driver Ken Miles in the film Ford v Ferrari, he opened up about his car of choice, saying: “It’s a 2003, and it was second-hand even then!

“But, you know, everybody’s gotta pick something up, haven’t they? So you need a pick-up.”

Jennifer Lawrence – Volkswagen Eos

Despite having a net worth of £125m and an award for Best Actress at the Oscars, Jennifer Lawrence doesn’t always roll out the red carpet when it comes to her cars.

While Lawrence, 33, has enjoyed executive motors like the Tesla Model S in the past, she’s also been spotted driving around in a 2011 Volkswagen EOS – which can be picked up for less than £3,000 today.

Mark’s minivan

Mark Wahlberg is one of Hollywood’s leading men but is also humble father of four.

And rather than ferrying his kids around in a supercar, he owns the keys to an “unassuming” MPV instead.

Speaking to chat show host Ellen DeGeneres, he said: “Let’s just say I’m not riding in the Porsche that I saw you have parked outside, but I like my car because it’s very unassuming – I have a Toyota Sienna minivan.”

Expecto Punto!

As a young actor, Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe had millions in the bank by the time he passed his driving test in 2014.

But instead he opted for a low-key set of wheels with the purchase of a Fiat Grande Punto, costing around £15,000 at the time – although worth about £2,000 today.

Speaking to WENN, he said: “I’m not gonna be one of these people who when I do pass my test gets, like, a crazy fast elaborate car.

“A good piece of advice I was given was, ‘When you’re buying a car, buy a car you’ll feel comfortable sitting in traffic in.

“If you’re in a Ferrari in traffic, you’re not gonna look cool!’”
