A DRIVING expert has recommended his top three first cars for under £5,000 – including one that will get you “street cred”.
Mo from Behind The Wheel took to TikTok to share his tips with new drivers on how to get on the road in style while sticking to a tidy budget.

Ford Fiesta

A real classic of the used car conversation, the Fiesta has built a strong reputation for affordability, reliability and practicality.
Mo managed to find one with 60,000 miles on the clock for around £4,000.
The 1.2-lite spec is a good choice here, keeping costs down at the pump while providing ample power.
Just watch out for values going up in the near future, with the Fiesta discontinued after a 47-year production run that saw it become one of the nation’s most popular motors.
VW Polo

Another staple of second-hand forecourts is the VW Polo which, like the Fiesta, has become a firm favourite among Brits for a reason.
It’s also a 1.2-litre and is great for moving around town, but can open up a bit on the motorway too.
Moderate mileage examples clock in around the £3,700 mark while sportier GTI models can also be found under budget as well.
Seat Ibiza

Mo described the Ibiza as the car he would go for “with his own money” if he was buying his first vehicle all over again.
Not only is it economical, reliable and nicely designed it also, according to Mo, has “a bit of street cred” to back it up.
However, just be careful with secondary costs, as some social media commenters claimed that theirs had been a little more expensive to insure, particularly on the 1.4-litre variant.
Nonetheless, its insurance grouping does make it cheaper for coverage than the average UK car.
