Forgotten ex-Arsenal ace ‘lined up for transfer deadline day return to English football’ just six months after Ajax move

CHUBA AKPOM is reportedly set for a swift return to English football.

The former Arsenal prospect joined Ajax last summer in a £10.5million deal from Middlesbrough.

Akpom, 28, has only been at the Dutch giants for six months as the club has performed under expectations this season.

Ajax are currently 5th in the Eredivisie but they have been boosted by a recent upturn in results.

Akpom has made 20 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring nine goals.

However, the club could look to let him leave back to England.

According to The Telegraph, a number of Premier League clubs are looking at making a late move for the striker.

Clubs have until 11pm on Thursday evening to add to their teams for the remainder of the season.

The report claims that Ajax are “reluctant” to let Akpom leave the Johan Cruyff Arena this month.

It adds that it would take a permanent offer for the club to be tempted into parting ways with the attacker.

Fulham are named as one of the clubs looking at a move for Akpom.

The Cottagers are keen on signing a striker this month to fill the void left by Aleksandar Mitrovic in the summer.

There has been interest in Chelsea‘s Armando Broja, who is said to be top of Marco Silva‘s wishlist.

The Albanian forward however will cost upwards of £40million.
