My bills were getting worse so I moved into a small lorry – people say ‘it looks better than a London flat’

A MAN has showed off his converted truck that he’s lived in for over two years – admitting it all started off as a bit of a joke.

Carl, a mechanic, gave viewers a tour of his unique home filled with homely touches, including a full kitchen and a living room complete with a flatscreen TV.

In a video posted to YouTube channel Liveration, Carl reveals how the Mercedes HGV has plenty of room to live inside – with one commenter even claiming it “looks better than a London flat.”

Carl says the truck used to belong to Stihl, a popular manufacturer of lawn-mowers, before he bought it from eBay for just £2,500.

On the outside it hasn’t changed very much, with Carl opting to keep the vehicle’s original orange finish – although he has installed four large solar powers on the roof for power.

However, inside the lorry is completely kitted out everyday furniture and appliances, and even has plywood walls seperating each room to make it resemble a flat on wheels.

That includes a large bedroom, a living room with a sofa and TV and even shower and composting toilet.

In fact, the van-lifer says the only thing he needs that he doesn’t have is a PlayStation 5.

Discussing how moving into a truck came about, Carl said: “It started off as a bit of a joke.

“I was working in a push-bike shop and I had just had enough of the normal house thing that everybody else does.

“I said I’m just going to buy a truck and turn it into a house box, so I started looking at them on eBay while I’m at work and all my friends all my work colleagues were just like ‘that’s just out there’.”

Carl’s been living in the orange truck for over two years and says he’s “as off-grid as possible” and is presumably saving lots of money – having recognised that “household bills were getting worse and worse.”

Carl added: “It’s a comfortable way to live.

“I class it as probably a similar footprint to living in an apartment in London or somewhere, and with the same facilities.”

Social media commenters loved the idea, with one writing: “Awesome setup you’ve got there.”

Another added: “This was great. When living in that size of a truck, there seems to be almost no compromises.”

Not everyone was convinced, with one viewer commenting on the lack of windows, saying: “Great set up but I’d want a skylight.”

And another said: “You’re living off the good will of local councils, parking up on public roads etc.

“Could you imagine if a lot of people were doing it in two tonne lorries?”

This comes as a driving instructor explained how a little-known road marking could see most driver’s fail their test – with many not knowing what it actually means.

And elsewhere, VW have revealed that they will not be replacing the T-Roc Cabriolet when they launch their updated version of the SUV next year.
