FOR some people the thought of spending the night on a train sounds absolutely awful.
But there are certain journeys where sleeping on board public transport is much more glamorous than it may first sound.

Included in that is the Caledonian Sleeper – a service linking London to the Scottish Highlands that is often listed among the best train journeys in the world.
The service is praised for the luxury experiences on board, as well as the breath-taking scenery it passes through along its route.
Travel experts Lonely Planet included it in their list of the world’s most amazing train journeys, saying it epitomised the romance of rail travel.
They wrote: “Segueing from the sooty suburbs and crowded concrete-lined cul-de-sacs of central London to the crisp air and soaring vistas of the Scottish Highlands via one overnight train journey epitomises the romance of rail travel.
“Enjoy the buffet-car banter, be lulled to sleep by the rhythm of the rails, then wake up to bedside views of towering granite peaks”
Different levels of luxury are available on the train, with some stays even including breakfast in bed.
However, regardless of where you sit, the cabins will be modern and comfortable with £150million worth of investment improving the Caledonian Sleeper in 2019.
Some hotel-room style carriages even come with en-suite bathrooms, showers and breakfast included in the price of the ticket.
Elsewhere, dinner on board comes in the form of Scottish classics, with previous options including Scottish smoked salmon, Strathdon blue cheese Linguine, and haggis, neeps & tatties, among others.
The more expensive Club Car rooms have even been compared to flying business class, but with more luxuries and for a fraction of the cost.
Postcards by Hannah was one of those fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to try out a double guest room on board the train.
She said: “This is like flying business class on a plane, but doesn’t cost you thousands of pounds for the pleasure (and you get your own en-suite bathroom and double bed too!).
“Perks include access into the lounge at the station, breakfast included, an in-room wash basin, loo and en-suite shower, complimentary sleep kit with toiletries, priority Club Car access, Wi-Fi, charging points, room service, temperature control and dimmable lights.
“So actually… it has FAR more than business class on any plane I have ever been on!”
Meanwhile, the cheaper seat-only option has reclining chairs, personal lockers, reading lights, charging points and other modern amenities that make the prospect of a night in a seat much more alluring.
The service runs to several different destinations in Scotland, including Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Fort William, Dundee, Inverness, St Andrews, Gleneagles, Aviemore, Stirling and Perth.
Therefore travellers can use it for any number of purposes, be it visiting some of Scotland’s best loved cities, taking in some golf or exploring the highlands.
Either way the service promises passengers that they will refreshed when they arrive.
The service’s website reads: “The Caledonian Sleeper is the most civilised way to travel between Scotland and London, allowing you to arrive refreshed at your destination of choice following your overnight journey.”
A seat from London to Edinburgh on the train can be booked from £50, while a double en-suite cabin for the same route starts at £360. Tickets can be bought from the Caledonian Sleeper website.
Meanwhile, this is the most scenic train route in the UK and it costs just £3.
And you can ride a London tube train with sea views on this British island.
