The Israeli tactician left the West Londoners that same year and had some brief spells at Portsmouth and West Ham.

But the now 68-year-old disappeared from these shores after his departure from the Hammers in 2011.

Several fans watching the African nation competing against Congo couldn’t believe their eyes when they saw Grant in the dugout.

One fan tweeted: “Avram Grant busy managing Zambia instead of being on speed dial to be our interim like in the good old days.”

Another posted: “I’m shocked Avram Grant is Zambia coach.”

A third wrote: “Is this the same Avram Grant that coached Chelsea FC some times ago?”
