FLIGHTS across Europe and parts of the UK have been either cancelled or delayed due to freezing weather conditions.

Passengers in Germany and the Netherlands are among the worst affected, while Leeds Bradford has also been hit with problems.

Yellow warnings for ice and snow are in place across all four UK nations, with air travel disrupted as a result.

The worst affected UK airport is Leeds Bradford, with a number of flights from there either delayed or cancelled.

Routes to Amsterdam, Dublin, Gdansk and Bucharest are listed as cancelled on the airport’s website.

Meanwhile, other flights to Alicante and Dublin have been delayed.

The picture for arriving flights isn’t any better, with several diverted to other airports including Liverpool, Birmingham, East Midlands and Humberside.

Meanwhile, another flight from Amsterdam was cancelled.

Passengers due to fly from Leeds Bradford have been advised to check the status of their flight before heading to the airport.

A spokesperson said: “We are open but experiencing delays and disruptions to flights due to the adverse weather.

“We’d recommend passengers check with their airlines and on our website for live updates.”

Other flights from the UK have been affected by problems elsewhere in Europe.

Three flights from Manchester to Frankfurt have been cancelled today, but everything else seems to be operating as expected from the airport.

The airline tweeted yesterday: “The cold weather is here, but our airport remains operational.”

Meanwhile, Edinburgh and Glasgow airports have also had several flights to Frankfurt grounded but seem otherwise unaffected.

Problems in Germany and elsewhere in Europe are the cause of those issues, with delays and cancellations announced for both today and tomorrow.

Freezing temperatures are causing huge issues at Frankfurt where 570 of the 1,047 scheduled arrivals and departures have reportedly been cancelled today (Wednesday, Jan 17).

The airport has tweeted: “Due to weather conditions, flight disruptions and cancellations will occur on Jan 17.

“Weather related disruptions are also expected for Jan 18.

“Check the status of your flight before traveling to FRA. Should your flight show up as cancelled, please don’t travel to the airport.”

According to Euronews, more than 250 flights at Munich airport have also been affected, while Dusseldorf and Cologne/Bonn are also affected and Saarbruecken airport was closed for the day on Wednesday.

Elsewhere, more than a hundred flights have been delayed with dozens more cancelled from Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport.

KLM Airlines warned passengers of disruption on Wednesday morning, saying on its website that “weather conditions and limited de-icing capacity” would cause problems.

Flights to London City and Birmingham are among those affected, as well as others to Copenhagen, Stuttgart, Helsinki, Aalborg and Frankfurt.

A spokeswoman for KLM told aviation news site Luchtvaartnieuws: “The cold winter weather is leading to adjustments to the timetable, because planes have to be de-iced before departure.”

Meanwhile, this is how you can claim compensation if your flight is cancelled or delayed.
