I’m an expert car salesman – BMW motor is the ‘best modern classic’ for under £20k… it’s value for money & cheap to run

AN expert car salesman has named a BMW motor as the “best modern classic” you can buy for under £20,000.

James Russell from The Motor Grid, a classic car dealership based in Oxfordshire, urged drivers to take another look at some of the more recent models which might have slipped under the collectors’ radar.

Asked by a follower for his recommendation for an affordable but stylish ride, he suggested the BMW Z4 M Roadster.

The Z4 model enjoyed decent popularity during its production run between 2003 and 2008.

Nonetheless, it remains quite rare, with only 5,070 of the nearly 200,000 Z4s produced globally being the M Roadster version.

It came equipped with an “unbelievably brilliant” 3.2-litre inline-six engine that put out 338 horsepower, with the top speed limited to 155mph.

In his TikTok clip, James showed off his own Z4 M, saying: “It’s in very dirty condition because I use it every day, whether it’s wet or even if there’s salt on the roads.

“It’s such a usable every day car.

“[And] it’s actually relatively low cost for what it is.

“In terms of value for money, it just doesn’t get much better than that.”

Based on listings on AutoTrader, the Z4 M also fits wells under the £20,000 budget, with Euro 4-compliant examples (which are exempt from ULEZ and CAZ charges) available from as little as £11,000.

And £18,000 will get you a 2007 model with just 53,000 miles on the clock and a full service history.

Social media commenters loved the recommendation.

One wrote: “Definitely a cool car.”

Another added: “Good choice.”

However, some suggested they preferred the non-convertible coupe version for its design, saying it has “slightly better proportions”.

It comes after Donald Trump’s unique 1997 Lamborghini, with a hidden plaque bearing a secret message, went up for auction.

Indeed, he owns one himselfTikTok/themotorgrid
