But for those who don’t have a plastic bag lying around, a large onion can assist in defrosting a window.
Meanwhile, another savvy car owner posted a trick to speed up defrosting on chilly winter mornings.
Mum Sara posted to her TikTok account and shared one trick she uses to halve the time spent running her defrost: putting down her visors.
She said: “If you ever have a sheet of ice on your car or when it’s frosted – put the [sun visor] down. Otherwise, you can feel the air come straight up over it.
“If you put the [sun visor] down, it creates a block, so that it actually defrosts faster.”
Another car driver shared a 5p “frozen hack” to defrost the car’s windshield instantly.
All you need is a dash of methylated spirits – which will only cost you 5p if you buy a £5 bottle from your local supermarket.
The content creator, also known as @neonretrofurniture, posted a TikTok video explaining how to use it.
In the video, the car owner shows his windscreen completely frozen.
He then proceeds to splash the mix on the iced windshield – which then appears to instantly melt on the video.
When he jumps back into his vehicle and puts the windscreen wipers on to clean all the extra liquid.
He said: “Sorted! Lovely job.”
Youtuber Marc Rober also went viral for sharing his speedy four-step system to defog a windshield in no time.
With temperatures continuing to drop through the winter months, another driver has a time-saving trick to help car owners.
However, drivers are urged that some trending car hacks could cost them £5,000 in fines or even result in a loss of licence.
One hack encourages drivers to ignore the Highway Code by not signalling property to overtake or avoid traffic.
It isn’t illegal, but drivers who don’t indicate when manoeuvring could be slapped with a £5,000 fine and as many as nine penalty points.
