Hard-up households can get up to £400 direct bank account deposit from this week – how to apply

HARD-UP households have been urged to check how to apply for a £400 direct bank account deposit from this week.

Cash-strapped families can claim the money via the government’s Household Support Fund (HSF).

Councils across the country are giving away payments to eligible Brits struggling with money.

The cash is dished out from a pot of £842million in help by the Department of Work and Pensions.

Each council is allocated a portion of the money to distribute to cash-strapped families who make less than £50,000.

Grants you can claim depend on your location so you’ll have to check how much you can get and how your council will pay you.

Some local authorities are making bank transfers while others are offering help in the way of food or utility bill vouchers.

Brits living in the borough of Guildford in Surrey can get up to £400 from this month as part of the HSF.

The help is to pay out food, energy bills and other essential household items.

However, this doesn’t apply to those struggling to pay back their mortgage.

Eligible residents should have received an email from the council.

These people are working-age households who get council tax support.

The fund was due to end in March this year but was extended until April 2024 – meaning households can get more support.

People who are struggling and missed out on the cash can apply for another grant by March 31 this year.

There are conditions though – families must be in need of “urgent financial assistance and not have enough income or savings to meet the eligible costs the scheme can help with”.

The council said it will accept applications from, or on behalf of, people who are in financial difficulties, they must be over the age of 16 and live in the borough of Guildford.

According to the council’s website, applicants will be notified once a decision has been made on your application.

If your application is approved, you will receive a payment by bank transfer to your nominated bank account 10 working days after the date your claim.

You can apply online via the council’s website or give them a call on 01483 458055 during our office hours.

It comes as thousands of households in Leeds were told they could get £100 free cash in cost of living payments.

Just days ago it was also revealed millions of households will start receiving a tax-free payment worth £300 within days.

The cost of living payment from the Government is being made to Brits on certain benefits including Universal Credit.

Those eligible won’t have to do anything as it will land in accounts automatically between October 31 and November 19.

The tax-free cash will show up in bank statements as your National Insurance number followed by either DWP COL or HMRC COLS.

Households on tax credits eligible for the payment will receive it from HMRC instead of the DWP between November 10 and 19.
