I’ll buy Taylor Swift a pie & let her sit in the directors box if she plunges millions into Motherwell, insists chairman

JIM McMAHON has defended Motherwell’s public plea for a rich backer.

And the Fir Park chairman joked American singer Taylor Swift remains his No 1 target — promising her a pie in the directors’ box if she plunges her millions into the club!

McMahon revealed at least ten potential investors have been in touch after Well’s quirky viral video reached an audience of 2.5million since its release on Wednesday.

He said: “My ideal investor would be Taylor Swift, obviously. She could come and give concerts here before a game.

“I’m looking forward to the Well Bois having a big banner up saying, ‘Taylor Swift, we love you’ and playing her songs in the stadium.

“When she visits she’ll get a seat in the directors’ box and a wee pie!

“But what’s important is not the profile. It’s about finding an organisation or individual who believes in what this club is doing. Who gets what Motherwell as a community club are doing and would like to be part of it.

“That’s more important than the name.”

Well players and fans got involved in the tongue-in-cheek advert aiming to attract investors.

Some supporters labelled the video cringey, with keeper Liam Kelly dressing up as a lollipop man and defender Stephen O’Donnell translating football as soccer to American viewers.

But McMahon insists he wasn’t embarrassed as he looks to keep up with Premiership rivals Hearts, Hibs and Aberdeen.

He said: “I read a lot of the stuff online and it wasn’t universally positive at the start.

“But getting the sort of coverage we’ve managed is because it is quirky and tongue-in-cheek.

“People have really put themselves out there.

“I’ve told Stephen he’s an international star now. He’ll get recognised in the street along with Liam. They’re up with the stars.

“I know some people have said they are embarrassed by the video. I’m not embarrassed. I’m proud that we’ve given it a really good shot.

“I’d like to say I saw this reaction happening, but I’d be lying.

“I’m really delighted for everyone that took part.

“Fans turned up on the day, the players, the staff and the whole team all got involved.

“Given we’ve got nearly two and a half million views, it’s phenomenal.

“There’s at least ten — I think it might be more than that — who have contacted us and asked if we could have a chat about potentially investing.

“The early signs are very encouraging.

“I don’t see this is us begging for money.

“Five or six years ago we didn’t have big cash injections from the likes of James Anderson at Hearts, Dave Cormack at Aberdeen and Hibs’ money.

“We must attract money from other sources to give us a better chance.”
