Thorpe Park fans shocked as big event is cancelled this year

THORPE Park fans have expressed their disappointment after learning that a popular event has been cancelled this year.

The resort announced its calendar of events for the upcoming year and there was one obvious omission for eagle-eyed fans.

The summer carnival is not on this year’s calendar after two years of celebrations with circus-style entertainment.

It offered “circus-style street snacks” and “the dark side of the carnival” with Breakout at Bozo’s – a special clown maze attraction for the event.

There were also free runners, contortionists, hoop divers and aerial artists adding to the carnival atmosphere.

Theme park fan site Attraction Source noticed its absence and wrote on Facebook: “After two years, is the Carnival over at Thorpe Park?

“Thorpe Park have published their 2024 event line-up, with Mardi Gras, Oktoberfest and Fright Nights all set to return. However, there is no mention of the park’s summer event.

“Would you like to see another year of Carnival?”

Since then, the resort has confirmed to Sun Online Travel that the assumption was indeed correct and that it won’t be taking place this year.

They explained that they had “so much newness incoming” with new rides and attractions expected, that it is not going to be on the cards for visitors this year.

They said: “With so much newness incoming, Thorpe Park has bid a fond farewell to its Carnival event this year.

“Infusing two seasons with contagious feel-good summer vibes, Thorpe Park’s Carnival event treated its summer visitors to an uplifting blend of circus-style entertainment.”

Some people greeted the news with disappointment, commenting on Attraction Source’s Facebook post saying they would like to see it return this year.

One said: “I really hope carnival isn’t going! It’s a great event! RIP Breakout at Bozo’s.”

However, others were happy to see the back of it, with one saying it was “a load of rubbish” and another adding that they “probably won’t miss it”.

Even without the carnival, Thorpe Park insists that this year will be their “biggest and best” because of its new rides and attractions.

Included in those are Hyperia, the UK’s biggest and fastest rollercoaster and its new American themed land, Big Easy Boulevard.

They continued: “2024 is set to be Thorpe Park’s biggest and best season yet!

“Excitement is set to reach new heights in this jam-packed season as Thorpe Park prepares to launch the UK’s tallest and fastest rollercoaster – Hyperia!

“But that’s not all! They’re also unveiling a new land – Big Easy Boulevard, alongside a calendar of events including fan favourites Mardi Gras, Oktoberfest and the award-winning Fright Nights”

Meanwhile, this popular attraction at Alton Towers was forced to close after more than 20 years.

And this derelict theme park in the UK could be set to reopen.
