‘I’ll miss sausage rolls’ devastated shoppers cry as iconic bakery with 86-year history closes down for good

CUSTOMERS are devastated after a much-loved bakery in Cleveleys town has announced its closure centre has announced it will close after 86 years.

Owners of the cafe said they made the tough decision as the business became “increasingly difficult” to manage.

The staff of the much loved store thanked their loyal customers for their support and making the café a “haven of laughter and warmth.”

A spokesperson for the Family Bakery said: “After 86 years of serving the local community, a journey that spanned three generations of the Neal family, we have not taken this decision lightly,”

“The past few years have presented significant challenges, and maintaining the viability of our business has become increasingly difficult.

“Reflecting on the impact this has had on our health and family life, we have come to the difficult conclusion that it is now time to close.”

“We would like to express our deepest gratitude to our incredible staff for their unwavering hard work, dedication and commitment.

“They have truly been the heart of our business, and we will eternally be grateful for their support.

“As we prepare to say farewell to the Family Bakery, the love and memories we’ve shared will not be forgotten.

“The friendships forged and the joy we have experienced together will forever remain in our hearts and we hope that you will continue to allow us to serve you for the next few months until we close our doors for the final time.”

Local residents and frequent customers of the bakery expressed their sadness online and thanked the Neal family for the running the iconic shop.

One person wrote: “So sorry to hear this. You were a part of our weekends each week when our children were little.

“We had breakfast each Saturday as a treat in the café.”

Another expressed: “The best memories working here with the best team.”

A third fan said: “I’m going to miss my sausage rolls but wishing the whole family and all the staff all the best in whatever the future brings! Sending lots of love.”

More recently, a high street bakery chain abruptly closed a store after already shutting 170 branches.

Patisserie Valerie, which once had almost 200 stores across the UK employing around 3,000 staff, has closed another branch suddenly.

Shoppers have spotted a sign on the door of the bakery chain’s branch in High Wycombe’s Eden Shopping Centre which reads: “This store is now closed!”

The site closed on Tuesday, January 2, according to local news reports.

The High Wycombe branch has also disappeared from Patisserie Valerie’s store locator tool and from the shopping centre’s website.

The Sun has contacted the retailer for comment.
