Angus Mitchell, the son of late hairstylist and hair care products co-founder Paul Mitchell, has died suddenly at the age of 53, it has been confirmed.
The shock news was announced in a statement by John Paul Mitchell Systems co-founder John Paul DeJoria on Instagram.
“It is with tremendous sadness that we mourn the sudden passing of Angus Mitchell. As a hairdresser and co-owner of JPMS, Angus had a deep love of family, community, and the beauty industry,” the statement read.

“Angus was the son of late co-founder Paul Mitchell and was a beloved colleague and important part of our JPMS family. Angus had a huge heart that impacted countless people who crossed his path.”
It finished: “We are grateful for the time we got with him, though it ended far too soon. During this shocking and difficult time, we kindly request privacy as we navigate this profound loss.”
The Paul Mitchell Instagram account also re-shared a throwback photo of Angus and Paul together on the beach.

Angus, who is survived by his wife Mara Mitchell and his son from a previous relationship, was co-owner of John Paul Mitchell Systems.
A cause of death is not yet known.
He reportedly was spending time in Hawaii with friends before his death, where his late father had an estate.
In June, Angus shared a touching tribute to his late father to mark Father’s Day.
Underneath a picture of the pair together, he wrote: “Happy Father’s Day, Dad. You’re always on my mind and in my heart. Missing you always~🙏🏼.”
Paul Mitchell, who was originally from Scotland, died in Los Angeles in 1989 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
