TEMPLEGATE tackles Tuesday’s action confident of finding a few winners – just as he did right through 2023.
In fact, our very own Steve Mullen tipped the most winners of all the national newspaper tipsters for the second year running last year.
In total he gave you a whopping 2,400 runners… and reckons there are loads more to come in 2024.

CLOVIS BOY (1.15 Ayr, nap)
Took a big step forward when getting off the mark at Hexham last time out. Lucinda Russell is best known for her staying chasers but this improving hurdler has lots of stamina too and loved every yard in the heavy ground. He goes over the same trip today in similar conditions and looks more than capable of defying a 5lb rise in the weights. The form of that victory has been franked by the second horse scoring since so it looks a pretty solid performance. With few miles on the clock there should be improvement to come under the capable Derek Fox.
FELTON BELLEVUE (12.30 Fakenham, nb)
Has the benefit of the excellent Gina Andrews. Having a good pilot on board can make the world of difference in these amateur riders’ contests. Ben Case’s nine-year-old has been in good form at Lingfield where he was a tight second before running to a similar level when fourth at Leafy last time out. The handicapper has gradually brought his mark down and this step up in distance can see him back in the winner’s enclosure.
RAFFERTY’S RETURN (2.45 Ayr, treble)
Looks like he’s been working up to another win. He has been in solid form this season with a third at Wetherby before a decent fourth here last time out. His handicap mark has now dropped to 2lb below his last victory and he loves the heavy ground he’ll encounter today. Trainer Rebecca Menzies knows what she is going and it’s interesting that she’s upping my fancy to three miles for the first time. That could be the trick to getting his head back in front.

ESPRIT DU POTIER (12.45 Ayr)
Can land his first hurdles win. He was high-class in bumpers, holding his own in the hot contest at Aintree’s Grand National meeting. He has hit the post on both spins over timber so far — including here last time out. Moving up from two miles can see him get off the mark as he looks blessed with stamina.
