Google issues major update on ‘bricked’ devices after weeks of user frustration – is yours affected?

GOOGLE has revealed that a software update is on the way for two of its devices after users reported that theirs mysteriously stopped working.

People have been complaining for weeks, claiming that the popular gadget was “bricked”.

The issue affected some early Google Home and Google Home Mini speakers.

Owners say all four lights on the Google Home turn on, but the gadget refuses to function.

“My device has 4 dots currently I can’t seem to reset it or do anything with it,” one user said.

Another said: “I am on this forum for the same issues. I cannot factory reset by using the button on the bottom, or by using the disconnect power for 10 sec and reconnecting 11 times.”

The following models were impacted:

Google Home (2016)

Google Home Mini (2017 1st gen)

The tech giant only partially acknowledged there was a problem at first.

But now Google has come out saying a bodged software update was behind the chaos.

The firm said only a small percentage of speakers were affected.

“A software rollout caused a small percentage of older Google Home (2016) and Google Home Mini (2017 1st gen) devices to stop working,” a rep told 9to5Google.

“The issue has been resolved for future updates.

“Users who are experiencing an unresponsive device with four unblinking white lights being displayed can contact customer support for assistance.”
