Views for the vibrantly coloured cars on its site were trundling along at 1,947 the day before it came out.

But it rose by 155 per cent to 4,959 the next day. The count has remained high since.

In the movie, Margot Robbie, joined by Ryan Gosling’s character Ken, drives a bright pink Corvette convertible from Barbieland to California.

In fact, the car was being remotely controlled for safety reasons.

The movie, largely made in studios in Watford, generated £80million for the UK economy and was this year’s biggest box office hit.

An AutoTrader spokesperson said: “Barbie was the feelgood movie of the summer but it was still a surprise to see nearly 5,000 Barbie fans taking Margot Robbie to heart and checking out pink cars on our site.”

However, anyone still hankering after a pink Corvette is likely to be sorely disappointed — there were none for sale on Auto-Trader yesterday.

Pink was also a long way behind black as the year’s most popular colour.

And Corvettes are unlikely to catch the VW Golf — which had 6.6million views.
