Man Utd plan for Mason Greenwood revealed as Getafe loanee ‘attracts Real Madrid and Barcelona transfer interest’

REAL MADRID and Barcelona are monitoring Mason Greenwood – with Manchester United now convinced they should sell the Getafe loanee.

The Red Devils have reportedly dashed any suggestions once and for all of taking the frontman back.

Mason Greenwood has impressed LaLiga rivals on loan for GetafeEPA

The one cap Englishman, 22, has impressed Getafe since arriving on transfer deadline day.

And bigger LaLiga rivals have noted not just his haul of five goals but also his blossoming all-round performances.

Greenwood was even singled out for incredible praise by Atletico Madrid strike legend Antoine Griezmann this week.

The United academy product failed to score but was a regular menace as Getafe nicked a 3-3 comeback draw at 10-man Atletico on Tuesday.

Griezmann himself netted twice to go level with Luis Aragones as his club’s all-time record scorer on 173 goals.

And afterwards the 127-cap Frenchman, 32, said: “Mason Greenwood was really causing us problems in the second half, we couldn’t stop him and it cost us the game.”

That LaLiga game showed why Getafe would love to put together a package to keep the United academy product.

Boss Jose Bordalas raved: “I said it from day one, he is a fantastic player and he would reach his best level little by little. We have treated him really well.”

But if Spanish giants Real and Barca firm up their interest then Greenwood could be set for a staggering big-club transfer at the end of the season.

He was arrested in January 2022 amid charges of attempted rape, assault and coercive control.

Greenwood denied all charges and the CPS later dropped them.

It’s understood United initially considered trying to integrate him back into the squad.

But that idea didn’t go down well with many fans.

Instead Greenwood was loaned to Getafe – and now it appears the Red Devils are intent on offloading him for good next summer.
