‘Ultimate’ Ford Capri with ‘very rare Turbo Technics conversion’ up for auction… you may struggle to find another

AN “EXCEPTIONALLY rare” Ford Capri considered to be the “ultimate” by enthusiasts is up for auction.

The vintage motor, which may look like an ordinary Capri on the outside, packs a serious punch under the bonnet thanks to an “in-period Turbo Technics conversion” – giving it an impressive 200bhp.

According to experts over at Car & Classic, this Capri 280 is one of 1,038 built and one of only 500 that came in the gorgeous lighter shade of ‘Brooklands Green’.

But it’s underneath the shell that makes this fast Ford particuarly interesting, with a rare Turbo Technics conversion boosting the motor’s output to 200bhp and the ability to reach 60mph in just 6.5 seconds.

According to records, this Capri was first registered in the UK on October 12 1987 and has 52,109 miles on the clock.

Classic car fans will be buoyed to know it comes “with no visible corrosion to panels, including common Capri areas” while the seats and carpets “appear to be original and show only light marks of age”.

Described as being an “exceptionally rare example of an already highly desirable Capri”, the motor goes up for auction on Boxing Day and collectors are warned “they may struggle to find another”.

This comes after another 1987 Ford Capri sold at an auction recently for £42,250.

The lovingly restored classic, said to be limited-edition, had been tucked away for 23 years in dry storage before going under the hammer.

And a white Capri, with a sunroof and the original Ford dealer catalogue, was also up for grabs.

Elsewhere, Wheeler Dealers host Mike Brewer has opened up on the moment thieves stole his classic Ford Fiesta Mk1 in just “minutes”.

The TV host was due to unveil the Fiesta on the show’s 20th anniversary just hours after it had been fully restored.
