Rachael Blackmore adds thousands to charity fund as Grand National legend eyes £250,000 target

RACHAEL BLACKMORE added another £10,000 to her charity fund courtesy of a couple of weekend winners.

The Grand National legend has teamed up with Betfair – and between them they are looking to raise £250,000 for the Injured Jockeys Fund and Irish Injured Jockeys.

Blackmore has been adding to the Serial Winners kitty – with all proceeds going to charityPA

The Serial Winners challenge kicked off on Betfair Chase day last month.

And Blackmore, who made history with her 2021 Aintree win on Minella Times, has banged in five winners since then.

Betfair put in the initial £100,000 donation so now it’s up to £125,000 after Birdie Or Bust and Easy Fella went in at Thurles on Sunday.

The goal is to hit £250,000 by the time the Grand National rolls back round in April next year.

The Injured Jockeys Fund has helped more than 1,000 jockeys and their families since 1964, distributing more than £20 million.

Betfair’s donation will help fund continue their great work.

Betfair ambassador Blackmore said: “This is a very generous initiative from Betfair and one that I am excited to be a part of over the coming season.

“The work of IIJ and IJF is vital in providing support services for jockeys past and present.

“It’s great to have Betfair supporting not only me, but two organisations that are so important to us as jockeys.”

Betfair will add an extra £5,000 for every winner she rides.

And with a typically strong book of rides for master trainer Henry de Bromhead over the festive season, let’s hope even more gets added to the pot.
