It came after he was discharged from hospital following a battle with cancer.
His “devastated” family announced he had passed away “peacefully” surrounded by his loved ones following a “long battle with illness”.
The lifelong Evertonian had been a board member of the club since 1989, before becoming vice-chairman and later chairman when he succeeded Sir Phillip Carter in 2004.
His time at the helm of the Toffees saw him become the club’s longest-serving chairman for more than a century.
And today Everton held a memorial service for him at Liverpool Cathedral to celebrate his life.
Attendees included members of the senior men’s team, staff, supporters and a number of former players and employees.
Boxing legend and I’m A Celeb runner-up Bellew was among those in attendance at the memorial.
Chelsea icon and former manager Lampard was spotted there too, with present boss Sean Dyche seen as well.
