A FULLY legal car which can be driven by a solo 16 year old without a driving licence is already available to buy.

The Citroen Ami buggy is strictly speaking a “light quadricycle”, not a car.

This subtle difference means the motor can be driven by a 16-year-old with a moped licence.

The Ami has a top speed of just 27.9mph and a maximum range of 48 miles.

It comes with gold wheels, matt camo paintwork and metal bars in place of the doors.

Writing in AutoTrader, expert Dan Trent said: “The Citroën Ami stands out for both its cute design and for being the cheapest way to go electric on four wheels.

“While a 16-year-old could conceivably drive it on a motorcycle licence there are limitations to factor in like the 28mph speed limit and left-hand drive layout.

“Be under no illusions, though. The Ami is about as basic as four-wheeled transport can get.”

Motoring whizz Christopher Sharp predicted electric vehicles like the Ami will never replace normal cars.

Writing in the Express, Christopher said: “It is an expensive alternative to the train, the Tube, or the bus, someone’s third vehicle rather than their first.

“What this means is that the Ami won’t replace someone’s ordinary car.

“It won’t be a car someone sells their SUV, hatchback, or estate car for.

“People will buy it because they have the spare income to afford it.”

A man who converted his car into a camper van says he now pays no rent, saves £900 a month and will be able to buy his own home in months.
