Oprah Winfrey fires back after 25 years of body-shaming: ‘Absolutely done with it!’

TV icon Oprah Winfrey has admitted she uses weight loss medication to keep on track of her health, after experiencing years of body-shaming in the spotlight.

Winfrey, 69, fired back at critics in a new interview with People and said: “I’m absolutely done with the shaming from other people and particularly myself.”

“The fact that there’s a medically-approved prescription for managing weight and staying healthier, in my lifetime, feels like relief, like redemption, like a gift, and not something to hide behind and once again be ridiculed for.”

“It was public sport to make fun of me for 25 years,” she added.

Winfrey said she used yo-yo dieting for years but finally got on track of her health after knee surgery in 2021.

She explained that she eats her last meal at 4pm each day and drinks a gallon of water on top of using an unnamed weight loss medication.

In 2019, Winfrey revealed she was diagnosed with pre-diabetes before losing 19kg.

At the time, she said she used Weight Watchers to help her health.

“I haven’t shared with many, but I will share with you, that I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes before WW,” she wrote in a Weight Watchers letter that was shared with People.

Speaking about her blood sugar, she said: “I am proud to tell you those numbers are back to normal too!”

“Beyond the weight, WW has helped me make healthier choices and understand the real numbers that matter most,” she added.
