TV lovers warned BBC iPlayer has stopped working on some boxes – check yours now

BBC iPlayer has stopped working on Humax Freeview Recorder box model – in a major blow for telly fans.

The once-popular TV box – which lets homeowners pause, rewind and record live telly from across 70 channels – recently lost support for the BBC on-demand app.

The Humax HDR-2000T Freeview Recorder has been a household staple for some since 2013.

But in late November, the box quietly axed support for BBC iPlayer – home to all BBC’s on-demand content.

The move was reportedly a result of unresolved technical issues, according to Cordbusters.

Despite efforts by both the BBC and Humax to resolve these problems, neither could find a workable solution.

The pair were therefore left with the “difficult decision” to end support for the app on this particular model, according to a statement.

However, users were reportedly not notified directly about the loss of access from either the BBC or Humax.

The Humax HDR-2000T Freeview Recorder is no longer sold as new – but it still resides in many households across the UK, and is currently being sold as used on sites like Amazon.

As Cordbusters put it, clinging to older gadgets can sometimes lead to “unexpected roadblocks” – such as lost support for popular apps.

It happens with phones all the time – but we forget it can also happen to our telly boxes.

Last year, Humax models – alongside other brands of boxes – lost support for the new ITVX app.

Now, Humax HDR-2000T Freeview Recorder owners are left searching for alternative ways to access BBC iPlayer and ITVX.

And for that, there are two options: upgrade to a newer TV box with app support, or stream via a PC, laptop, tablet or phone.

BBC iPlayer is supported on most of the modern streaming devices sold in the UK – including Amazon’s Fire TV sticks, Roku, Sky Glass and Stream, Freeview Play TVs and newer Freeview boxes.
