We drove 1,200 miles in an abandoned van that hadn’t started for 17 YEARS – we got it going with a £2 item

PALS managed to drive an abandoned van which hadn’t started in 17 years some 1,200 miles, using a £2 item to get the motor running.

The YouTube star known as Junkyard Digs, Kevin, and his friend Dalton managed to drive the battered, old Dodge van all the way to Phoenix, Arizona.

Their mission was to get to Phoenix so they could help out a disabled veteran with his car.

The pair did run some tests on the engine before setting off on their road trip.

While there was some life in the battery and the lights came on, the engine was dead and there was no fuel in the tank.

The next day they set about trying to get the engine going.

Kevin said: “Let’s see if this thing will come right to life today, put some air in the tires and hopefully that’s all we have to do is hit the road.”

Dalton replied though: “I think you are way too optimistic.”

The pair try to get the van going with some battery terminals but no luck.

The guys try a variety of techniques to get the van going but are unsuccessful.

They then spray some brake cleaner and after a few good squirts, the engine eventually comes to life – briefly.

But with a bit more coaxing and even more spray, the van is able to get going for the first time in years.

Brake cleaner can be bought from outlets like Halfords or online stores such as Amazon for as little as £2.

“Mission accomplished,” Kevin jokes as the van drives a few yards forward.

Before they could actually set off on their road trip a few more bits and pieces needed attention, such as discovering a hole in the tank, but mostly they were now good to go even if it still had to be made road worthy.

The pair eventually got going and did make it all the way to Phoenix covering a total of 1,263 miles, according to the mileometer.
