With the cost of living crisis looming, many car owners might be thinking of cleaning their vehicles themselves instead of splashing out on a professional service.

Luckily, experts at Motor Match have shared a money-saving tip to leave your motor spotless.

All you need is to rub a cucumber – which you can find for 65p at Waitrose.

Experts said: “Cucumbers are a hidden gem in cleaning, especially for car seats. The Ascorbic Acid that is found in the vegetable breaks down stains.

“This acid acts as a gentle detergent, penetrating the fabric and dissolving the particles that make up the stain, which makes the cleaning process more efficient and fabric-friendly.”

For effective results, cleaning pros recommend to make sure the seat is free from loose debris by vacuuming the area.

You can then slice a cucumber and rub the slice over the stained area in circular motions.

The natural juices of the vegetable will seep into the fabric and absorb the dirt.

The added: “Ascorbic Acid needs a few minutes to work, so let the area sit for about five to ten minutes.

“You’ll notice the stain beginning to lift as the cucumber’s natural properties interact with it.”

After drying up the area, drivers should use a clean rag and blot the are carefully.

“This helps in picking up any leftover cucumber juice and loosened dirt particles, ensuring that the seat is not only stain-free but also free from any cleaning agent residues,” experts said

But drivers are advised to be aware as the acid can damage certain fabrics.

For this experts recommend to always do a spot test on a hidden area to make sure it won;t damage your seat.

Cleaning experts explained: “Incorporating natural cleaners like cucumber into your regular car maintenance routine can significantly extend the life and appearance of your car seats.

“These natural methods are not only effective in tackling occasional stains but also help in maintaining the overall hygiene and freshness of the car interior, without the harsh effects of chemical cleaners.”
