I’ve been a mechanic for 20 years, these are the craziest requests I’ve had… including customer who wanted brakes cut

A MECHANIC of over 20 years has revealed the craziest requests he’s ever received.

David Long, a.k.a the Car Wizard, shared the wild and whacky anecdotes on his YouTube channel, including some extreme car mods.

The first strange demand stemmed from David’s policy of always keeping the driver’s side window of any car he works on rolled down during the repair process.

He explained that this was to prevent the embarrassing mistake of accidentally locking the keys inside the motor.

However, one customer apparently specifically requested that all the windows be left rolled up throughout the process so that the smell of the interior would not be “diminished”.

They failed to explain why the smell was so important to them and David admitted not going along with the bizarre demand.

It couldn’t have been all that important though as he added: “When the customer came to pick up their vehicle, they were none the wiser.

“They didn’t even notice.

“They didn’t notice any diminished smell.”

Another whacky request came from a driver who was trying to impress his friends by doing burnouts on the road.

This is where you put the car into gear and dump the clutch before stamping on the break to spin the wheels while the car remains stationary, causing the rubber to “burn out” and produce smoke.

Unfortunately, the boy racer was struggling to achieve this so he asked for an extreme course of action.

David claimed that the customer had demanded that he cut the rear brake lines so that a burnout would be more easily achieved.

But since this would also illegally alter the brakes and render the car unroadworthy, the wizard, of course, declined to do so.

And a third customer even apparently declined to have his car fixed unless he could be filmed with it and have the clip uploaded to David’s channel.

The driver allegedly flat-out refused to have a spark plug changed unless he was able to get the publicity from it.

Finally, perhaps the most disturbing story was the motorist who, according to David, asked one of the workshop’s employees to disable the emergency boot release on their car.

This is the button or tab manufacturers put in the boot in case someone gets trapped in there or, in an even more sinister vein, to prevent the car from being used in a kidnapping.

David recalled that the customer had asked to have this put out of action because they had a “special project” coming up which required the mod.

He fumed: “[My employee] didn’t even consult me on that one he just said no, hell no.

“We want nothing to do with your ‘special project’.

“I talked to my buddy Jake who’s a sheriff’s deputy…he said that sounds very bad.”
