Lineker, 63, is well known for his footballing ability and TV presence but is also remembered for pooing on the pitch during the Italia ’90 World Cup.

The Match of the Day host has now revealed that he was sent a “disgusting” letter by a fan, however, he does not think it was inspired by his accident.

Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, he said: “I think things have changed a little bit with social media.

“You used to get snail mail and things arriving in the post with a green felt pen when somebody gets a bit upset and various other strange things.

“Thankfully now has disappeared almost as you would open envelopes back in the day with a degree of nervousness.

“I remember, this is a bit gross, but I used to get sackfuls of mail after my career in the early days of TV etc.

“I used to get one letter every week and I would open it and it would be toilet paper with what you might think would be on it.

“And I don’t think it was anything to do with my Italia ’90 accident, but every single time, it was so gross.

“In the end, I could work it out from the postmark that it was from Bath and someone who did not take enough baths and I could throw it away.

“You can talk s**t on Twitter or X, whatever you want to call it, but you can’t send it.”

Micah Richards was listening to the story and was left in hysterics.

The former Manchester City star was recently on CBS for their coverage of the Champions League.

He caused a stir as he rocked up in a very bold outfit although he was then teased by host Kate Abdo.
