The dreaded black stains can build up in damp environments – with bathrooms and bedrooms particularly at risk.
For this, insulation is a great way to keep your home warm since it does an excellent job of keeping heat in and cold and moisture out.
Luckily, cleaning whizz Nancy Emery from Tap Warehouse, has shared a genius tip to prevent mould and keep your home warm this winter.
Nancy said: “Mould thrives in cold, damp and humid environments.
“If left untreated, mould can cause serious health problems, including breathing issues, flu-like symptoms and allergies.”
To keep the dangerous stains at bay, the expert recommends to get hold of an insulation film.
She explained: “One of the most effective and affordable ways to combat mould is by investing in window insulation film for the windows in the coldest rooms of your home, or the rooms where you tend to see mould forming the quickest.”
According to the expert, you can snap up film for only £3 from Amazon and it is easily to use at home.
All you need to do is to apply the plastic film on your windows to block the air from entering.
The expert added: “Window insulation film is a thin plastic film that is applied directly to any window to effectively reduce heat loss providing better insulation.
“The film can either be directly applied to a window using a hairdryer to shrink the film around the glass or can be attached to the window ledge to create a still air layer around half an inch thick using pressure-sensitive tape.
“It’s like adding an extra layer of glazing to the window by restricting the convective air flow onto the inside glass surface, but at a snip of the price.”
The money-saving hack can also help prevent condensation and reduce the risk of mould and mildew inside your property.
Nancy continued: “Doing this simple fix will not only help to keep your house warm, it will stop heat escaping through tiny draughts and that means less wasted energy and money on bills.
“Be sure to check the size of the film is correct for your window.”
It comes as another expert revealed how to tackle mould this season as millions of families across the UK are struggling to pay the bills.
According to experts at MyJobQuote, the cases of mould in homes in the UK could soar by more than a whopping 400 per cent this year.
