New lakeside resort opening a few hours from the UK – with hotel, rooftop garden and huge spa

A HUGE new resort is opening in Europe in 2027 – and it will have one of the largest spa complexes in the country

Lakeside Resort Kellersee, near Hamburg in Germany, will be a large spiral building set around an artificial lake.

The €180million (£156million) project is being built on a former medical clinic which has been abandoned for 20 years.

Inside will be a hotel with more than 200 rooms, as well as flats and three restaurants.

A large wellness and spa centre will be one of the largest in Germany, while an 140,000sqm park will be created.

Guests will be able to take a ‘nature’ path all the way to the top of the building too, winding around the outside.

The newly created lake will provide water to the resort.

Hamburg-based architect Hadi Teherani, designing the complex told local media: “Seen from above, it looks as if the building has been modelled out of the landscape itself.

“Although it will hardly be recognisable from above [as] t’s all green.”

He added: “The Lakeside Resort should boost the region’s inland areas.

“The Baltic coast is often overcrowded in the summer – we are now offering a great alternative just an hour from Hamburg.”

Set to open in late 2027, it will also create 400 direct jobs and 800 indirect jobs.

To get to the new Lakeside Resort, Brits can fly to Hamburg with the 1hr30 flights starting from £19 with Ryanair.

The resort is then another 1hr30 drive from Hamburg.

Until it opens, Germany is currently home to one of the biggest indoor waterparks in the world.

Tropical Island is home to the largest indoor beach in the world, as well as an indoor rainforest and record-breaking water slides.

And Europa Park, in southwest Germany, is so popular guests say it is “better than Disney”.

But Lakeside Resort is not the only new attraction opening in Europe in the next few years.

Eurocamp is set to open 57 new holiday parks next year across Europe, including France and Spain.

Starting from £25 a night, many of the parks are right by the beach, or have their own waterparks on-site.

And opening in 2025 is Center Parcs Nordborg, the first to open in Denmark.

If you fancy staying in the UK, a new holiday resort is set to open in Preston with 130 lodges and swimming pool.
