Many drivers are likely familiar with the problem of their car alarm going off unnecessarily.

Certainly, it seems almost all parents know the pain of leaving a child or a pet in the back while nipping into the supermarket, only to be called back moments later when their movements trigger the wailing siren.

Thankfully, the RAC have explained how to solve this using either a little-known dashboard button or a key fob hack.

A spokesperson for the club said: “There are few things more annoying than a car alarm that keeps going off, especially if it happens randomly in the middle of the night.

“If your car key has a built-in remote, you may be able to turn off the alarm by unlocking the driver’s side door with the key instead of using the remote.

“This can help reset the alarm settings if there is a fault.

“Some cars also have a button on the dashboard with the word ‘off’ on it, which allows you to deactivate the alarm system.”

This button can be picked out by its symbol, the outline of a car with three lines inside and the word off or a light next to it.

If you are unable to deactivate the system and it keeps going off unprompted, you should take it to a trusted local garage to be repaired.

However, the experts warned that, if there is no fault with the alarm, it should always draw you back to your motor.

They added: “A car alarm that goes off should never be ignored.

“At best, the alarm may be caused by a fault or an open window; however, in a worst-case scenario, a car alarm going off may be warning you that someone is trying to steal your vehicle.”

It comes after a major car firm was reported to be announcing that it will build two new EVs at its UK factory in a major boost to the nation’s car industry.

Meanwhile, drivers spotted a major flaw with a hidden boot button usually beloved by motorists.
