I drove 2.5 hours to visit Christmas market and it was an ‘absolute waste’ – people call it the ‘worst in Europe’

AN Irish woman has told how she visited an Irish Christmas market – and felt it was an “absolute waste” of time.

Crowds have been flocking to the Galway Christmas Market which takes place from November 10 to January 7 in Eyre Square.

A TikToker revealed her visit to the Galway Christmas MarketTikTok

The blogger, who posts under @sh3lly_l, took to TikTok to share her visit.

She said: “Can’t even walk without stepping on somebody.”

After spending 2.5 hours travelling, from Kerry to Galway, the TikToker said it was an “absolute waste”.

With festive rooftops full of red and white colours, there are over 50 huts which are packed with Christmas gifts, toys and tasty treats.

Alongside the market stalls, there is a Big Wheel, Carousel, Santa’s Grotto and a German Bier Keller.

But in the video, people are shuffling through the crowd to try get a glimpse at the stalls.

She said: “Btw Galway markets are the most overwhelming place you’ll walk – forget the aesthetic.”

And people rushed to the comments to share their thoughts.

One person said: “Was there, loved it but it was a Saturday morn and not too busy.”

Another said: “You have to go on the ferris wheel…. you won’t be disappointed.”

One visitor said: “Was there at on Saturday. Couldn’t see the stalls as too many people pushing past.

“A route for people not looking to see stalls is needed.”

While another added: “Finally someone being honest and not saying it’s so pretty. Living in Galway and walking through it is so awful.”

Someone else said: “Worst Xmas market in Europe.”

It’s the 13th year that the festive market has run in Galway’s town centre.

Visitors also took to Tripadvisor to rate their experience.

One person said: “Christmas market was very nice, plenty of shops, well organised.

“Carousel and ferry wheel add an extra happiness for kids.”

While another said: “The Christmas Market in Eyre Square is lovely, with many vendors of food and gifts.

“We had a great time browsing around the stalls and having some Christmas snacks.”

Meanwhile, a couple rated a fantastic Irish Christmas event at a seaside town with Christmas markets and a light show for a date night.

Taking to TikTok, Jess Wylie, who posts under the username @lilmisswylie, shared her date night experience at the Wonderlights event in Dublin.
