The 61-year-old star took 500 hours of skydiving training while 13,000 bike jumps were analysed by computer before the daredevil scene was shot in Norway.
Director Christopher McQuarrie admitted: “This is far and away the most dangerous thing we’ve ever attempted.”
A mayor in Norway secured one of the bikes, minus its wheel, to raise cash for Save the Children.
A source said: “None of the bikes were anywhere near roadworthy after Tom had finished.
“But it’s great that one has raised money for a good cause.”
Tom and his crew were left more than a little peeved last summer due to the phenomenal success of Margot Robbie’s Barbie.
A source said: “Tom’s Mission: Impossible seven was hard-earned and overcame so many hurdles to make it into the cinema.
“But there is a feeling among the crew that they fought hell and high water to get it out only for Barbie to come along and totally overshadow it.
“It’s a really hard time in Hollywood right now so no one is knocking Barbie’s wins, it’s just left a bit of a sour taste in some mouths.”
