Should children be allowed in first class? Mum shocked as plane passenger swears at her for giving toddler posh seat

A MUM was shocked after a passenger swore at her for buying her child a first class ticket during a flight.

The parent used some extra money available to her to treat herself and her toddler to a luxury journey, where they would be able to sit much more comfortably.

The child fell asleep soon into the flight, and only got up from her seat when she needed to make use of the toilet.

However, the mum was confronted by a fellow passenger who wasn’t happy about the child being in first class.

She then wrote about the incident on Reddit to see if she had been in the right, or if she shouldn’t have brought her child into the posh seats.

She wrote: “My husband, toddler (almost 3) and I were flying across the country for Thanksgiving.

Man furious when stuck between couple with baby on flight – but opinion is split

UP IN THE HAIR

I was baffled by a passenger’s selfish behaviour – not everyone agrees

“Since we could afford it due to a nice pay raise my husband recently got, we decided to splurge on first class tickets for the trip.

“My toddler has always been a good flyer and has flown a lot throughout her short life.

“She stayed seated and quietly playing throughout the flight, only getting up when she had to go potty – the issue was with another first class passenger. “

The man had glared at the family as they got on the plane and then told them that they didn’t belong in first class with their toddler, leading to the mum calling a flight attendant.

She continued: “We took off and all was good. My kid fell asleep in the middle of colouring, I was listening to music when I got a tap on my shoulder.

“It was a guy who glared at us as he boarded and before I could even get a word out he told me that children weren’t allowed in first class and that we needed to move to our ‘real’ seats.

“I told him that I did not feel comfortable talking with him and that I was calling a flight attendant to come handle this.

“The flight attendant came and explained to him that we were in the correct seats that we paid for and asked that he sit back down and not bother us again.”

However, despite being told to leave the family alone, the man couldn’t resist a final dig as they were getting off the plane.

The mum added: “He did go back to his seat but as we were getting off the plane he whispered to me that I was a ‘fat c***’ and that he pays too much money for first class to be surrounded by children.”

The parent was furious, but after talking to her family members during the holiday, she started to doubt herself.

She said: “After talking to family at Thanksgiving many of them told me that we should book economy next time because people pay extra to relax in first class. “

However, no one else told her that she should have to fly in economy, with online commenters on her side.

One wrote: “Even if your child did cry, it wouldn’t have mattered because you paid and are entitled to the seats you paid for.”

A second added: “If he can afford first class then he can afford some good quality noise cancelling headphones. His comfort is not anybody else’s responsibility but his.”

A survey carried out last year revealed that four in ten parents would leave their kids alone in economy while flying first class, if they were given the chance.

A poll of 2,000 mums and dads of kids aged 18 and under found 55 per cent dreaded the prospect of having to go on an aircraft with their children.

Chef Gordon Ramsay is among those who flies without his kids in first class, and once revealed he makes them fly “cattle” class while he lives it up in first class with his wife Tana.

The TV chef exclusively told The Sun the strict rule helps “keep them grounded and motivated”.

“When it comes to holidays, I told them: ‘Don’t you dare waste that f***ing money flying first class from here to New York – we all f***ing take off together, we all land together; think what else do with money’,” he said.

“When they ask if they can pop up to us for some nice food, we say ‘No you f***ing can’t’, so now they take their own picnics on board, and they’re absolutely fine in economy.

“I mean, what 14 year old needs to sit in a reclining chair?”

Meanwhile, this passenger shared footage of a child screaming throughout him 29 hour flight.

And these parents were slammed for letting their child jump up and down on a plane tray table.
