‘I will always smile when I think of you’: Friends co-star Matt LeBlanc farewells Matthew Perry in social media tribute

Matt LeBlanc has broken his social media silence to publicly farewell Matthew Perry, two weeks after the actor’s shock death.

The 56-year-old, who played Perry’s roommate Joey Tribbiani in Friends, shared a series of photos of the duo – both on-screen and off – alongside a letter to the late star.

“It is with a heavy heart I say goodbye,” LeBlanc began.

“The times we had together are honestly among the favorite times of my life.

“It was an honour to share the stage with you and to call you my friend. I will always smile when I think of you and I’ll never forget you. Never. “

Hinting at Perry’s trouble in the past with addition, LeBlanc encouraged him to “fly brother you’re finally free”, before adding a joke to finish off the fond farewell.

“And I guess you’re keeping the 20 bucks you owe me,” he said.

Perry starred in a range of TV shows and movies from the age of 15 but is best known for playing Chandler Bing on the hit ’90s sitcom.

The main cast of FriendsJennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer and LeBlanc – all attended Perry’s private funeral in LA last week.

The actor died after an apparent drowning in the jacuzzi of his LA home on October 28.

Aside from releasing a joint statement in the days following Perry’s death, none of the cast members had commented on his passing individually until now.

“We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family,” they said in the statement to People magazine.

“There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss.”

Friends director James (Jim) Burrows told 60 Minutes the hit show’s cast were left absolutely “destroyed” over the death of castmate at the age of 54.

Burrows, 82, who directed more than a dozen episodes of the comedy show, said he had been texting with the female cast members after finding out the news, describing their loss as “a brother dying”.

“I consider the cast a family, so it feels like I’m losing a son,” he said.
